Halifax Unit
The Halifax Unit of the Military Nurses Association of Canada carries forward a proud tradition that began with the Nursing Sisters Association of Canada (NSAC) Halifax Unit. For decades, military nurses gathered regularly to strengthen friendships, honour those who served, and support veterans’ initiatives throughout Canada.
Following the death of the final NSAC Halifax Unit President Dame Margaret Guilford in 2023 at the age of 105, the unit entered a new chapter. Under the leadership of Captain (Ret’d) Nancy Shiner, it was reorganized as the Halifax Unit of the Military Nurses Association of Canada, reflecting the evolution of military nursing while preserving the traditions established by generations of Nursing Sisters.
Today, the Halifax Unit continues to celebrate the service and achievements of Canadian military nurses through fellowship, remembrance, historical research, public education, and community outreach.
