On 8 June 2026, Captain (Ret’d) Cathy Gibson , CD, participated in the unveiling of the Echoes of Healing Commemorative Garden at Aberdeen Hospital including a central art installation and special military marker. Located on the former site of the nursing school, the garden honours generations of graduates who helped shape health care in Pictou County.

Established in 1897, the Aberdeen Hospital School of Nursing trained generations of health care professionals before closing in 1995. The new garden and memorial help preserve that history and recognize the contributions of the school’s graduates, including those who served in the military. A list of Aberdeen Hospital School of Nursing Graduates who have military service booklet was produced as part of the project.

Congratulations to Cathy for her participation and dedication to the project!

Our Spring 20206 gathering was held at the Lions head. We spend two and one-half hours reminiscing about our military careers and hearing new stories about places like Canadian Forces Base Cold Lake, Canadian Forces Station Masset, and beyond!

Halifax Unit members have been recipients of a Quilt of Valour including Captain (Ret’d) Alfreda (Freddie) Douglas, CD; Major (Ret’d) Dave King, CD; and Lieutenant-Colonel (Ret’d) Gord Peckham, MSM, CD.

Our 2025 Remembrance Day gathering was held at the Royal Artillery (RA) Park Officers’ Mess. The RA Park Officers’ Mess is the oldest military Mess in Canada, serving officers in the Halifax garrison since 1816.

We had a great group of friends turn out and were treated to a bagpipe serenade by Captain (Ret’d) Denise Olsen.

Major (Ret’d) Rose Collins and Lieutenant-Commander (Ret’d) Cathy Campbell laid a wreath for Military Nurses at the Halifax Grand Parade Ceremony on 11 Nov.

This year’s Spring Gathering was held at The Wardroom, Canadian Forces Base Halifax, Stadacona. Stories, camaraderie, and laughs!

Our annual Remembrance Day gathering was held at the Royal Artillery Park Officer’s Mess in early November 2024. Our annual gathering is a time to commemorate, share stories and support.

The Camp Hill Veterans’ Memorial Hospital Candlelight Ceremony is a poignant annual tradition in Halifax, Nova Scotia, held in early November ahead of Remembrance Day. Veterans, Canadian Armed Forces members, cadets, and the Halifax Boys Honour Choir gather to pass the “Torch of Remembrance” to younger generation. Although there are no longer any Nursing Sisters in Residence at Camp Hill, the memorial tree is thriving in the garden.

We are thrilled to announce unit members who have received the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal. Created in 2012 to mark the 60^th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s accession to the Throne as Queen of Canada, the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal was a tangible way for Canada to honour Queen Elizabeth II for her service to this country. At the same time, this commemorative medal served to honour significant contributions and achievements by Canadians. During the year of celebrations, 60 000 deserving Canadians were recognized. The medals were presented to the recipients by Lieutenant-Colonel Sheila Ouellet on 26 June 2012.
